Garawa Preschool is a Department of Education preschool. The word Garawa comes from Darkinyung language and means Ocean/Sea.
Garawa Preschool offers a five day fortnight; the Channel Group (Monday, Tuesday and alternate Wednesdays) and the Lake Group (alternate Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays). There are 40 placements available (20 per group). Our priority of enrolment is for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families, however enrolments are open to all families in our local community.
The aim of Garawa Preschool is to extend and enrich children's learning during their last year before starting Kindergarten. We regularly visit and work together with the primary school to ensure a smooth transition to Kindergarten. At Garawa Preschool we provide a nurturing environment where children feel happy, safe and secure. The Early Years Learning Framework and National Quality Framework guide our program and practices. Children develop a sense of belonging, being and becoming as they engage in play-based learning experiences.

Together we gather each day on Darkinjung Country, to share knowledge and experiences, as the Elders of this land have done for thousands of years before us. We pay our respect to those Elders and extend that respect to all Elders of the present, including those emerging. As we learn and play together, we acknowledge all Aboriginal people who participate and contribute to the knowledge and experiences we share each day at The Entrance Public School.
