Garawa Preschool at The Entrance Public School
Why choose our public preschool?
At Garawa Preschool, we believe every child deserves the very best start to learning. Located within The Entrance Public School, our fee-free public preschool provides a safe, inclusive and nurturing environment where children feel valued, supported and inspired to explore the world around them.
Recently recognised with an Exceeding rating across all seven National Quality Standards areas, Garawa Preschool is proud of the strong relationships, high-quality learning programs and caring culture that underpin everything we do.
Through play-based and intentional learning experiences, children develop confidence, creativity, independence and a love of learning. Our experienced educators support each child’s strengths, interests and cultural identity while fostering curiosity, wellbeing and connection.
At Garawa Preschool, we place a strong emphasis on belonging and cultural safety, embedding Aboriginal perspectives and authentic community connections into everyday learning. As part of a public school setting, we also provide strong transition-to-school support, helping children feel confident and ready for Kindergarten.
“Garawa” comes from the Awabakal language and means “to grow”, reflecting our belief that every child should feel safe, connected and empowered to thrive.

Preschool days and hours
Our preschool is open for 6 hours a day, on the same days as all NSW public schools. To learn about our preschool hours, please contact us.
Fees
We do not charge fees to attend our preschool. NSW public preschools are funded by the NSW government.
Attendance
Public preschools enrol children for one year only, the year before they start school.
Children can enrol from the beginning of the school year if they turn 4 years of age before 31 July that year.
Meals
Children bring their own meals and snacks to preschool. For more information, please contact us.
How to enrol
Unlike NSW public schools, there are no intake areas for public preschools. Enrolment is on application only.
Enrolling in a preschool within a school does not guarantee a place at that school for Kindergarten.
